Reminder of the gift

Every time I see this picture or even think about this picture, I get teary. Even now, I start tearing up just thinking about it. We were able to spend some time with Ashley, Landon's birth mom, in the hospital. She switched rooms a few hours after Landon was born. We walked down the hall to visit her and as we got closer I saw something on the door frame. When I was close enough to see it, I gasped and started crying. This simple picture on her door frame said it all. I was the recipient of her gift. Tears started rolling down my face (just as they are now). I walked down to the end of the hall and took a few minutes to compose myself before we went in to see her. This was another moment when the magnitude of the gift of adoption hit me.

Ashley is an amazing woman. She is strong, courageous, brave, selfless and wants only the best for her children. Every day I think of her and every day I talk to Landon about her. I talk to him about the amazing gift Ashley gave us. Because of her, I am a mother. Because of her, Ryan and I have a son. Because of her Landon will have two mothers who love him. Because of her, Landon has life.

More of Landon

Life has sure changed for us...but in good way. Let's start with some fun trivia...Landon had his 2 week appointment on Saturday. He was 8lbs 2 oz and 19 inches long when he was born. His discharge weight from the hospital was 7lbs 15oz. Take a guess what his 2 week weight and length was...okay, take a guess...okay, are you ready for the answer?

9lbs 8oz and 22 inches long!!!! Can you believe it? No wonder he doesn't fit in newborn clothes. We love our doctor and she said he is very, very healthy.

Ryan's parents arrived last Saturday and spent the week with us. It was nice to have some extra hands for the night time feedings. They left yesterday so this week will be the first week for us home alone with him. Should be fun!

He spent his first few nights at home in a diaper changer thing with a towel beneath him. We got him a crib and dresser/changing table from Craig's list.

His cord fell off on day 8 and we gave him his first bath during the week. I was expecting him to scream the entire time, but he didn't really fuss that much. I think he liked it. And his hair turned curly, curly, curly!

So far he's been a good sleeper for us and a very healthy eater!

Did I mention I love my siblings?

The Beck kids - August 2009

Wish I lived closer so I could see these people more often. Can't seem to get enough of them.

Welcome home party for Landon

We had a welcome home party for Landon to introduce him to our families. It was a great afternoon/evening.
Finally a family of three!

Abby was excited to hold Landon who she has named baby Santa. After a while we convinced her that Landon was his name, so she said that Santa could be his middle name.

I love my family and wished we lived closer. Trent wasn't quite sure about holding Landon, but we coached him through it. Love my siblings (just missing my youngest brother Kade)

There is something to be said about sisters. I absolutely adore each and every one of my sisters.
Jackie and Jazzie were excited to meet their cousin. They were adorable holding him together.

**Thanks to Luke for taking all the pictures.

Most people have 9 months...

Most people have 9 months to prepare for a baby. Sometimes a baby will come early and shorten the preparation time, but the majority of the world has 9 months.

We had 9 days...just 9 days to prepare for this. Although we have been waiting for years and years, 9 days is just not a lot of time.

We have the most amazing birth mother ever. She is an amazing woman who we hope will always be a part of our lives. We are so grateful and humbled that she chose us.
